Full Length Feature Friday! Story of the Victory Cinema & National Theatre

The Victory Theatre 1921

This amazing cinema was once the beating heart of St Kilda, Melbourne. A glorious 3,500 seat cinema that was the place to be for any movie releases in the area. Opened in 1921, it was renovated and stylistically changed a number of times until the stalls and stage were removed to make way for a drama and ballet school.

In 1972-1974 it was reopened as the National Theatre as we know it today, with a new stage and fly tower added, and the original dress circle now becoming the auditorium.

A wonderful piece of history. Thanks to the National Theatre staff for allowing us a look at your hidden gems!
